Summer Appomattox Station Battlefield Tours

THIS SATURDAY: Explore the Battle of Appomattox Station with APPS! Join us on Saturday, June 27 for a FREE guided battlefield program at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Appomattox Station Battlefield (249 Jamerson Lane, Appomattox, VA 24522). Carson Butler, APPS Social Media Manager, will be leading the day’s tours and battlefield interpretation, taking visitors beyond the well-known story of April 8, 1865, when Federal cavalry under General George A. Custer captured General Reuben Lindsay Walker’s reserve artillery and the vital Confederate supply trains destined for Lee’s army. In addition to examining the battle’s tactical and strategic significance, Carson will dive deeper into the experiences of several of the units that fought on the field. Special attention will be given to the legendary Washington Artillery of New Orleans, the Donaldsonville Louisiana Artillery, and other Confederate and Federal commands whose actions shaped one of the Civil War’s final major engagements. Whether you’re a lifelong Civil War enthusiast or simply looking for a fascinating way to spend a summer Saturday, this is a unique opportunity to walk the battlefield where the final chapter of Lee’s retreat unfolded. Each program lasts approximately 45 minutes, and APPS historians will be on-site from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to answer questions and interpret the battlefield throughout the day. FREE Admission Please bring a lawn chair, water, sunscreen, and dress appropriately for the weather. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience history where it happened — we hope to see you on the battlefield this Saturday!
