We are a non-profit organization that provides outreach to historically excluded communities in Central Virginia.

The goal is to inspire change locally through education, communication and community support. A grassroots organization, AFE has seen rapid growth and a big show of support since hosting the first annual Juneteenth celebration in historic downtown Appomattox in June 2020. We have been able to educate and open dialog through our Juneteenth Celebration, Laptop for Scholars, and Totes for Teachers. We have been able to increase our collaboration with other community partner i.e. Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, American Civil War Museum, Horizon Behavioral Health, Centra, J Robert Jamerson Memorial Library, and individuals in the community. Our continued success is due to local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
